In their interview with the Iranian nut-job, they throw this little zinger into one of their questions (on the second page of the article):

SPIEGEL: Mr. President, doesn't there come a time when one should accept that the world is the way it is and that we must accept the status quo? The war against Iraq has put Iran in a favorable position. The United States has suffered a de facto defeat in Iraq. Isn't it now time for Iran to become a constructive power of peace in the Middle East? Which would mean giving up its nuclear plans and inflammatory talk?

McDermott's hypocrisy

Rep. Jim McDermott has lost an appeal in a lawsuit filed against him by Rep. John Boehner. You may remember back during the '96 campaign cycle that an old couple "just happened" to overhear a cell phone conversation between then-Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, and Boehner. McDermott got hold of the tape and released it to the press.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't that illegally tapping the phone conversations of U.S. Citizens without a warrant?

Which is why I was interested to find that McDermott is on the record as against that sort of thing.

And, he's spoken publicly about them too:

McDermott feels that Bush is exercising his power in a way that is lessening the questioning of his power by the people, which can be seen in his recent exercise of bypassing the judiciary step of acquiring access for the NSA to tap phones in order to spy on terrorists.

“Bush is saying ‘I don’t have to obey the law,’” said McDermott. “Excuse me? That’s why we jumped all over Clinton for lying about Monica Lewinsky. We are moving back to a government who says we can do whatever we want.”

To be fair, he has offered up an explanation as to why he should be allowed to listen in on the private conversations of two U.S. Citizens:

"The American people have a right to know when their government's leaders are plotting to deceive them, and that is exactly what was happening during a telephone call in 1996 involving Republican House leaders."

So, just so we're understanding this correctly, if you want to listen in on our own citizen's because you don't like what they're saying, that would be a GOOD thing. But if you want to listen in on terrorists who are calling people in this country, that would be a BAD thing.

I can understand people who disagree with the NSA program. I think they're wrong, but I understand where they're coming from. But, to disagree with the NSA program, and then do something like this, AND defend it!?!?! That's just amazing.

Some tidbits:

Two Iraqi documents from March 2003 — on the eve of the U.S.-led invasion — and addressed to the secretary of Saddam Hussein, describe details of a U.S. plan for war. According to the documents, the plan was disclosed to the Iraqis by the Russian ambassador.

And what about this "Ambassador?"

The Russian ambassador in March 2003 was Vladimir Teterenko. Teterenko appears in documents released by the Volker Commission, which investigated the Oil for Food scandal, as receiving allocations of 3 million barrels of oil — worth roughly $1.5 million.

And the opponents of the war say, "Iraq didn't have any ties to al Qeada!"

A newly released prewar Iraqi document indicates that an official representative of Saddam Hussein's government met with Osama bin Laden in Sudan on February 19, 1995, after receiving approval from Saddam Hussein.

Please pay particular attention to that last phrase "after receiving approval from Saddam Hussein."

To which some may say, (breathlessly) "But that doesn't prove they were working together!"

Given that the document claims bin Laden was proposing to the Iraqis that they conduct "joint operations against foreign forces" in Saudi Arabia, it is worth noting that eight months after the meeting — on November 13, 1995 — terrorists attacked Saudi National Guard Headquarters in Riyadh, killing 5 U.S. military advisers. The militants later confessed on Saudi TV to having been trained by Osama bin Laden.

Also, the Afghan consul Ahmed Dahastani allegedly claimed:

- That OBL and the Taliban are in contact with Iraq and that a group of Taliban and bin Laden group members visited Iraq
- That the U.S. has proof the Iraqi government and "bin Laden's group" agreed to cooperate to attack targets inside America.
- That in case the Taliban and bin Laden's group turn out to be involved in "these destructive operations," the U.S. may strike Iraq and Afghanistan.
- That the Afghan consul heard about the issue of Iraq's relationship with "bin Laden's group" while he was in Iran.

Proof? The opposition to the war wouldn't accept it anyway, because THEY HATE BUSH!

Except, she states:

However, this article explains that egress of the ice is due to an INCREASE in the ice pack in Greenland.

How is this possible? More ice == more egress?

Because, the higher levels of ice inland is essentially "squeezing" chunks of ice out of the sides.

That happened to me last night as Bill O'Reilly was arguing with Newt Gingrich about whether or not the government is to blame for not responding well to New Orleans. O'Reilly said something like, "They should have had a plan that could've helped the whole city."

It suddently dawned on me, "What plan could ANY government have to save a WHOLE CITY?!?!?" I put that in quotes because as it dawned on me I started yelling it at my wife. (My poor wife was the only one in the room to whom I could yell...)

Seriously. What plan can do that? There is no plan for the government airlifting 200,000 people off the roofs of houses. How could you seriously expect even FEMA to have a plan to do that? Its ridiculous.

Well, I never take issue with the "great one" in public, but I've got to address this. It goes to a very important dividing line within the Conservative movement. Rush is (despite what many may think) NOT a member of the "religious right." I am.

Does what is moral/immoral hinge on one's choices, and behaviors?

This is the classic dividing line between the "popular" understanding of Christian doctrine, and true Biblical Christianity. If you take any particular sin (lying, stealing, murdering) and say since I "choose" not to do it, then I have not sinned.

If I pick up a rattlesnake and it does not bite me, does that mean its not a rattlesnake? The Bible clearly explains that we are ALL sinners. Also, that if we fail in one point, we are guilty of all.

Here's the point: we are not sinners because we sin, rather we sin because we are sinners. Choice only enters into our outward appearance.

Remember that Jesus said, "Man judges the outward appearance, but God judges the heart." Some people take comfort in that. I don't. Because I know that who I am in my heart is much WORSE than the guy I let people around me see.

Rush is assuming that all sin is outward, and if a person doesn't "choose" a behavior, then it must be okay. But sin is deep in our souls. We all sin through both acts of commission, omission, AND thought.

The Psalmist prays, "May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord." The words are the external, but the meditations of the heart? They are internal. If you doubt your own sin, then just think about what YOUR heart meditates on in your unguarded moments.

It starts off as a heart-rending story about a father who skimps and saves on his few-dollars-a-day salary to put his daughter through college to finally push into the upper echelons of the Latin-American class system with a decent education.

The we find out that she decided to be an interior designer. Well, shoot Griselda, if you were going to squander all of your father's hard-earned cash on a decent education, do you think you might have picked ... oh, I don't know, maybe a BA degree?

I'm sorry, but they're trying to make me feel sorry for a "tortured artist." Oh, the glass ceiling for the poor of Mexico. Is it so bad that the rich in Mexico don't even want their drapes done by the "wrong sort"?

So, Newsweek screwed up. But historically, they always screw up. Its just that this time, there were some pretty nasty indirect consequences.

Actually I agree with Michael Smirconish (sp?), local Philly radio host, when he says that its not the fault of Newsweek that the riots happened. Those monsters would find ANY reason to kill people. They're brutal murderers. Who cares if THIS TIME it was an inaccurate news piece by Newsweek? What if it was accurate? They're still a bunch of brutal murderers.

I have to endure constant blasphemy of MY God at the hands of the same media. Just watch any prime-time TV show and see how many times His name is taken in vain in 30 minutes.

Then I heard Fred Barnes (or was it Mort Kondracke?) explain that in Islam the Quran is the embodiment of Allah, and that Christianity doesn't have any equivalent. Well that's just wrong. Jesus was the "Word of God." That's not an unintentional transliteration or anything. That's exactly what it says. That's the "logos" in Greek. So, if it was Fred Barnes (who I generally REALLY like) he needs to go back to the drawing board on that one. If it was Mort Kondracke, then he sometimes pushes my buttons anyway, so no big deal.

If so, why would you align yourselves with those with whom on so many social and world-view issues we disagree?

I find this position of yours greatly disheartening, and quite frankly, unbiblical. And, I'm sad to say that it sullies the reputation of the NAE in my mind. I have always had a great deal of respect for this organization, but I'm afraid I will now look on anything you do with suspicion from here on.

All the links I've seen about this Schiavo case have seemed like normal advocacy-group stuff(aka, rediculously biased). Now, it's certainly possible that the case actually is that clear-cut, but given that that doesn't happen often(and that if it did, I'd probably hear more about it), I'm going to ask if anyone has a link that talks about this from an unbiased(or even oppositely-biased perspective). I don't care how sick you find the perspective, I'm just interested in seeing something with a different line so I can figure out what the actual facts of the case are for myself.

I know its been a few days since the debacle that was Superbowl XXXIX, but I must opine.

I don't want this to sound like the mad ravings of a typical Philly fan, but I think it will, even though I'm not a typical Philly fan. I don't give a cr*p about this city's inferiority complex. Heck, I live in New Jersey.

Anyway, an argument can be made that the Eagles are the second best team at losing in the history of losing (Buffalo Bills hold the title). I mean seriously, anybody can go 0-16 (although few have). Its not that hard, really. You have to just not try at all.

But to go 12-4 or better three years in a row, win your Division four years in a row, get to the Conference Championship game four years in a row, have the coach with the highest career win percentage in all of the NFL (active AND inactive coaches!), sporting the best record in the NFL over the last five years .... and STILL LOSE is something special. They've taken losing to a whole new level.

Do you ever what that show "Myth Busters"? I like it. They take some "urban legend" and try to demonstrate whether its possible or not. It usually just boils down to them blowing something up. But its always cool watch.

Well, we have a possible "Urban Legend" that has been circulating lately. Its goes something like this: "The Eagles have NO CHANCE of beating the Patriots."

I disagree. The Dallas Cowboys have NO CHANCE. The Eagles are playing the game. They have, by definition, a chance.

Have the Patriots lost a game this year? Yes. Actually a couple.

Have they lost to teams worse than the Eagles? Yes. To Miami (I'll grant that Pittsburgh is good).

There's a difference. The Eagles (discounting the last two games where they rested their starters) did not lose to a bad team at all this year.

So, just on the surface, I say the Eagles have taken care of business better than the Patriots. Who's the number one seed from their conference here? Not the Patriots.

Will the Eagles win? I have no idea.

I really like Philadelphia. I like Penn's Landing, South Street, City Hall, Broad Street and the Avenue of the Arts. I like walking on Walnut Street and shopping on Market Street. I love the Italian Market, and the Gallery Malls. I enjoy the Constitution Center, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The Art Museum, Natural History Museum, Rodin Museum, and Franklin Institute are always worth seeing.

I remember riding the High Speed Line from S. Jersey over the Ben Franklin Bridge in the summers when I was off from school, and swiming in the fountain at Logan Cirle ... in my clothes ... in 90 degrees. What memories!

And this is precisely why the Eagles must win. Because if they lose a fourth straight NFC Championship game (third straight at home) then all of this will be gone ... because they will burn it down to the ground.

So, the Eagles must win.

This guy (what's his name?) Egelund (?) says that because we don't have high taxes (we don't?) that we are stingy. We really want to pay more so we can help people who don't want to work.

Well here's my problem with his reasoning. I can some it up in one point. The government ain't everything, buddy!

I'd don't know how statistics are compiled, but I can assure you that just counting what money our government gives away (i.e. - through taxes) is but a paltry sum compared to the myriad nonprofits and religious organizations in this country that support all kinds of stuff Eagleman would like (but, probably a lot of stuff he wouldn't ... like abstinence education ... but I digress).

Mr. Eaglehead would probably be surprised to find out how generous Americans can be without the prodding of their government. You see we don't sit around in this country and wait for the government to solve every problem. That's the American spirit. We solve our own problems. Keeping these kinds of busybodies out of our own government has taken a lot of our energies away from solving our own problems, but we're doing what we can.

I so rarely get them... I just had to put it out there.

I was reading an article about controversy in the Ukraine over their election results. Some guy I never heard of (with too many consonants in his name) ran against some other guy I never heard of (with too few vowels in his name) and the loser is disputing the results. Sound familiar? Its Florida-East.

I was reflecting on how we got into this mess where no matter what the outcome, nobody believes in the process anymore. Everything is suspect. Everyone is a skeptic. Any charge, no matter how outrageous is treated as possible. Things didn't used to be this way. At least not in the U.S. And Eastern Europe has made remarkable strides in Westernizing their culture (at least with respect to living under the "rule of law"). Nevertheless, I believe this is a worldwide phenomenon.

This brings me to my thought. A few years back, one of my favorite authors (and speakers), Dr. Ravi Zacharias, put out a book called "Deliver Us From Evil." (Sorry Sean Hannity, but Ravi was first.) In it, he categorized three steps our culture has gone through which has brought us to our current state: secularization, privatization, and pluralization. His theme is secularization has led to a loss of shame, pluralization has led to a loss of reason, and privatization has led to a loss of meaning.

If all big cultural ideas a secular then anything goes (MTV anyone?). If any culture is morally equivalent to any other culture, then we have no basis for any comparisons. If any claim on truth must be private, then nothing can be true.

Put all of these together and we have problems. But, I think the political divide in our country (the U.S.) and others (Spain, UK, Ukraine, etc.) can be traced back to groups seeing reality from vastly different viewpoints with no hope of bridging the gap. There's no hope of bridging this gap precisely because truth must be private, all cultures are equivalent, and all ideas must be secular.

The Spirit of the Age screams at us that Michael Moore is as right as Bill O'Reilly, and you are dismissed as a crackpot if you hold any other position. Unfortunately, this also gives easy cover to those of us who would rather not expend the mental energy to wade through the arguments and come to a conclusion. "They each have a valid point," someone will say.

Phooey! There is objective truth in the world, and it is true for everyone, all the time. There was a winner in Florida '00, Ohio '04, and Ukraine '04. Unfortunately, the popular culture breeds skepticism by forcing us to believe that truth is relative. And we're starting to believe it.

be very successful at whatever you do could be such a conspiracy nut. I
mean really. On one hand, I'm supposed to believe that George W. Bush
is dumber than a stump, and on the other I'm supposed to believe he's
capable of all these grandiose schemes and connivings. It just doesn't
make sense.

And if we put aside that involvement of George W. Bush, and just say
he's a pawn in some larger secretive world of power brokers with hidden
agendas... Well, who's THAT smart? We can't even get a decent sugar
substititute. And we've got billions of people that would pay lots of
money for that! (Wouldn't you? ... OH DAMN! I promised myself I
wouldn't bring up your corpulence... sorry.)

If there were some conspiracy out there, and they were this smart, do
you think they'd let you run amok with your insane-sounding ramblings,
just on the off chance that some disaffected Socialist would believe it?
Turns out that you're actually better than that, and you even got some
otherwise normal people to believe it. I know better than to think YOU
actually believe it. But hey, it pays the bills pretty good, don't it?

Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski has slammed Dem president hopeful John Kerry for not recognizing Poland's contributions and sacrifice to the war in Iraq.

"It is sad that a senator with 20 years of experience does not recognize Polish contribution. This is immoral," Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski told FACTS in an interview commenting on the US Presidential Debate.

"It is sad that a senator with 20 years of experience underestimates Polish sacrifice, this is sad."

The Polish President added however that one should consider this was a part of the ongoing electoral campaign.

"I do not think this was out of ignorance," the president emphasized on the TVN Facts.

"There is one thing which should be stated clearly: this coalition is not just the United States, Great Britain, Australia alone; it also involves participation of Polish, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and Spanish soldiers who have died. It is immoral not to recognize the involvement we contributed based on our conviction that there should be unity in fighting terrorism, that there was a need to display international solidarity and that Saddam Hussein was a dangerous individual of this world."

"President Bush acted like a real Texan gentleman, he made sure to show appreciation for other countries' involvement in the coalition," Kwasniewski pointed out.

I know we've all heard the littany of things that liberals actually believe. But its rather amazing when you get one article which expresses almost all of the whacked ideas that we think they believe but rarely express. When we do call them on it, they deny it.

Its enough to make you doubt that they really believe this stuff at all. I mean really, who hates their own government more than a dictator? Why hate your own government in the first place? Its not like we live in Somalia. I never understood that. Why did they trust the Soviets to "do the right thing" but never trusted the US Military? I never got that one either.

So, without direct evidence from their own lips that they actually believe the things they seem to believe, we doubt ourselves. If we have to judge, for instance, whether the Democratic Party supports our enemies, then just look at their voting record as a party in the Congress, and ask yourself "How would they have voted differently if they DID support our enemies?"

But, we admit to ourselves, that is specious. Just because they seem to act a certain way may indicate they believe that way, but it may also indicate that they are just contrarians. I like to call it the "Bugs Bunny Syndrome." They get so used to yelling the opposite everytime we say "Duck Season" that they forget what they're saying half the time. Then we can trip them up by switching on them. (Take the "No Child Left Behind" act as an example... all of a sudden they become spend-thrifts on education... and then realize they just yelled "Duck Season, Fire!" and try to claim that no, in fact, George Bush UNDER-funded it.)

But I digress.

I'd like to analyse some of the amazing Liberal factoids that we've long suspected, but rarely see them admit to that are catalogued for us in this amazing piece of Liberal fiction.

THE WAR IN IRAQ goes from worse to catastrophic. Hundreds of Iraqis were killed last week, as were two dozen US soldiers. Planned elections in January point less to democracy than civil war.

Well, at least MORE Iraqis were killed than Americans. That's progress isn't it?

Kidnapping has become a weapon of terror on the ground, matching the terror of US air attacks.

Isn't this amazing!?! Terrorists are likened to the US air attacks! WE are terrorists!

An American "take-back" offensive threatens to escalate the violence immeasurably. The secretary general of the United Nations pronounced the American war illegal.

So fighting a war so as to win the war (i.e. the "take-back" offensive) is going to "escalate the violence." In my limited experience, dead people are never violent. Given time, they put out a putrid odor. But I've never seen them turn violent. Except on those "Living Dead" movies.

In the United States, an uneasy electorate keeps its distance from all of this. Polls show that most Americans maintain faith in the Bush administration's handling of the war, while others greet reports of the disasters more with resignation than passionate opposition. To the mounting horror of the world, the United States of America is relentlessly bringing about the systematic destruction of a small, unthreatening nation for no good reason. Why has this not gripped the conscience of this country?

WOW! He believes that Iraq was a "small, unthreatening nation." Was the Soviet Empire a "large, unthreatening nation?" Was Hitler a "crackpot Austrian?"

He also believes that the US is "relentlessly" bringing about its "systematic destruction." He thinks our military is worse for Iraq than the murderous dictatorship of Sadam Hussein.

And these liberals want to know why we believe them to be unpatriotic?

The answer goes beyond Bush to the 60-year history of an accidental readiness to destroy the earth, a legacy with which we Americans have yet to reckon. The punitive terror bombing that marked the end of World War II hardly registered with us.

He called the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki "punitive terror bombings."

No, really! He did! Go back and read it again if you have to. He really, really did!

Then we passively accepted our government's mad embrace of thermonuclear weapons. While we demonized our Soviet enemy, we hardly noticed that almost every major escalation of the arms race was initiated by our side -- a race that would still be running if Mikhail Gorbachev had not dropped out of it.

First, I guess he DOES think that the Soviet Empire was a "large, unthreatening nation." Second, the arms race being escalated by our side is what won the cold war, not Gorby's "dropping out" of it. We spent the Soviets into extinction. That was the promise of SDI. We could do it, and they knew it. They could not, and they knew that too.

In 1968, we elected Richard Nixon to end the war in Vietnam, then blithely acquiesced when he kept it going for years more.

Actually, we had Vietnam all but won. Major hostilities had all but ended. Then the Democratic controlled Congress decided to cut funding. Within months, Saigon fell. Perhaps this is what John Kerry was pining for when voted against the $87B that he voted for. ("Duck Season, FIRE!")

When Ronald Reagan made a joke of wiping out Moscow, we gathered a million strong to demand a nuclear "freeze," but then accepted the promise of "reduction," and took no offense when the promise was broken.

So, Gorby was the savior of the world, and Reagan was the personification of evil. I've always thought they believed this. Its nice to hear one of them say it clearly for once.

We did not think it odd that America's immediate response to the nonviolent fall of the Berlin Wall was an invasion of Panama.

Is THAT what we were responding to? Oh. And all this time I thought it was a corrupt drug-running dictator, threatening our national security by playing games with access to the canal. Silly me. It was the demise of communism in Europe that makes us ... invade ... somewhere ... else. Sorry, I just don't get that one.

We celebrated the first Gulf War uncritically, even though that display of unchecked American power made Iran and North Korea redouble efforts to build a nuclear weapon, while prompting Osama bin Laden's jihad.

The first Gulf War was a "display of unchecked American power?" This guy just won't let up. Do the Kuwaiti's think thats what it was? I suppose if they do, then they don't think "unchecked American power" to be a bad thing. This guy obviously does. And, so do the French, coincidentally.

The Clinton administration affirmed the permanence of American nukes as a "hedge" against unnamed fears, and we accepted it.

Quite frankly, the only reason I think Clinton was a Democrat is because he figured that Democrat women "put out" more. But, I supposed Hillary abjured him of that notion.

We shrugged when the US Senate refused to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, with predictable results in India and Pakistan. We bought the expansion of NATO, the abrogation of the ABM Treaty, the embrace of National Missile Defense -- all measures that inevitably pushed other nations toward defensive escalation.

So he believes that Pakistan (this is pre-9/11 mind you) was a nation which would have bound itself under the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. And he believes that India, which has been invaded THREE TIMES in the last century by China (a noted holder of nuclear weapons) was arming itself because of us. Yes, I can remember all of that sabre-rattling we did against India. They must have been terrified. I'm sure it had nothing to do with Pakistan (their neighbor to the west) or China (their neighbor to the east). Yes, it was all the US's doing.

The war policy of George W. Bush -- "preventive war," unilateralism, contempt for Geneva -- breaks with tradition, but there is nothing new about the American population's refusal to face what is being done in our name. This is a sad, old story.

Yes, this is actually the fault of all of us stupid Americans. Why aren't my countrymen more smarter, like me is.

It leaves us ill-equipped to deal with a pointless, illegal war. The Bush war in Iraq, in fact, is only the latest in a chain of irresponsible acts of a warrior government, going back to the firebombing of Tokyo. In comparison to that, the fire from our helicopter gunships above the cities of Iraq this week is benign. Is that why we take no offense?

So, we're not just cold-blooded killers. We're also heartless in our rampages. We don't care that we kill people. In fact, we've done it for decades.

...but don't call a Liberal anti-American. They'll get mad ... and be really angry about it ... and pass a resolution or something.

Something deeply shameful has us in its grip. We carefully nurture a spirit of detachment toward the wars we pay for. But that means we cloak ourselves in cold indifference to the unnecessary suffering of others -- even when we cause it. We don't look at any of this directly because the consequent guilt would violate our sense of ourselves as nice people. Meaning no harm, how could we inflict such harm?

Well, that's a nice thought. At least he thinks we don't "mean" harm. But, that belies the rest of the of article.

In this political season, the momentous issue of American-sponsored death is an inch below the surface, not quite hidden -- making the election a matter of transcendent importance. George W. Bush is proud of the disgraceful history that has paralyzed the national conscience on the question of war. He does not recognize it for what it is -- an American Tragedy.

George W. Bush is proud of our history. Why aren't you? And I know its an old refrain, but if things are so bad, why not move to France? Seriously. Why not?

The American tragedy. John Kerry, by contrast, is attuned to the ethical complexity of this war narrative. We see that reflected in the complexity not only of his responses, but of his character -- and no wonder it puts people off. Kerry's problem, so far unresolved, is how to tell us what we cannot bear to know about ourselves. How to tell us the truth of our great moral squandering. The truth of what we are doing today in Iraq.

But, didn't John Kerry support the war, and even say last week (unless he's changed his position again) that he still would support it, even knowing what we know now?

And, a murderous dictator that kills, rapes and wars against his own people, and his neighbors does NOT present us with an "ethical complexity." It presents us with a target.

They call Republicans hate-mongers? These people are angry and sad and they're not helping themselves until they deal with their own issues. If you are one of these angry people, here are some issues you must come to grips with:

1- Most of America doesn't care about Vietnam anymore. Get over it! We have.
2- George Bush won the election in 2000. Not the popular vote, the Electoral College. That's how it works. Get over it!
3- Saddam Hussein had WMDs. He used them on his own people. We found them in IEDs targeting our own troops. Its a fact, look it up.
4- The UN didn't want the war because they were profiteering from the Oil for Palaces program. Its a fact, look it up.
5- George Bush never said al Qeada and Iraq colluded on 9/11. He said they colluded, but not on that. And, they did collude. Its a fact, look it up.
6- George Bush never said that Iraq was an imminent threat. He said, "We cannot wait for the threat to become imminent." Its a fact, look it up.

Buried in the story is this quote by a CBS News executive:

Apparently, there has been some hanky-panky going on down in Florida! This article gives us the skinny on some FEMA impersonators.

I hate FEMA impersonators. I had a buddy run into one at a bar one time. Scary stuff. My cousin had a friend almost make it with one. Boy was he creeped out!

Here are some tips for detecting a FEMA Impersonator:
- "Relief Check" does not involve a bodily search
- If he offers to replace your lost copy of "The Crying Game"
- If he sings show-tunes while performing the inspection
- If he says, "Don't worry, I can declare a state of emergency!" then send Gov. McGreevey back north where he belongs
- A slightly larger than normal adam's apple

It looks like Missouri has joined the list of states to outlaw Gay Marriage.

The most compelling argument the proponents of gay marriage have is to play the "bigot" card. Its discriminatory to exclude same-sex couples from matrimony.

Well, I'd like to ask a simple question to those people. Is there ANY kind of marriage you would not allow? Which ones? For example, in your all-inclusion, non-bigoted world of same-sex marriage, would I be allowed to divorce my wife and marry ... say ... my 3-yr-old daughter? How about my neighbor's dog? What about if I do both of those and STAY married to my wife?

If the answer is, "Of course we wouldn't approve of that?" then you can't say I'm being discriminatory. You are too. We just disagree on where we draw the line.

If the answer is, "All of those things should be up to the individual." then you've essentially defined marriage to be whatever the anybody wants it to be. If it can mean anything, then in effect, it means nothing. There's nothing special about my commitment to my wife if it can be defined any way you want, at any time, under any circumstance.

Is defining marriage as being between a man and a woman discriminatory? You bet! When you add definition to anything (not just marriage) you are effectively excluding everything that does not fall under that definition. But, that's not a bad thing.

Some bright bulb (Reuven Pedatzur) at Haaretz is complaining that Israel's successful test of the Arrow Anti-Missile Missile will cause an arms race in the middle east, and paradoxically make things less stable.

I think the only thing being made less stable by the Arrow is Mr. Pedatzur's brain. It was the threat of an ABM system that caused the Soviet Union to spend itself into annihilation. And that was a threat against the Soviet Empire. This is not a threat. This is a reality against a bunch of borderline Third World thugs.

The real thing causing instability in the Middle East is a network of anti-Israeli countries who seek the end of Israel as a sovereign nation, a people, and a religion. Get that and learn it.

So I just got done reading the interchange between Bill O'Reilly and Michael Moore at the DNC convention.

Moore just keeps ranting about sending the "children" in to fight for a "lie."

First, there were/are WMD's in Iraq! We got hit with them! Doesn't anyone remember the Sarin in the IED they found on the roadside? What's wrong with these people? Selective memory, or selective understanding?

Second, we don't send children into war! These are grown men and women. And, we don't have a draft. They were all volunteers. If he wants to keep saying silly things like this, I'm going to have to tell his mother. She'll slap him good! Silly little boy.

Third, O'Reilly and Moore both said that Bush said this was for an "imminent threat." Except that he never said that. In fact, he said that we needed to do this BEFORE the threat became imminent.

Fourth, Moore said that Bush kept saying there was a supposed connection between Iraq and 9/11. Bush did NOT say that. He said there was a connection between Iraq and Al Qeada. He never said they colluded specifically on 9/11.

So, on every point Moore is the one who's lying.

Floods, redux

So I was checking into this "separation" thing regarding the help with the flood. The lady who is coordinating the whole effort at the township is in my church. I went up to her and asked "Why hasn't the church been sending anyone to help?" The look on her face told me she'd obviously heard the "rumors" and was sick of them.

So, that got me to thinking. The only thing worse than if this is true, is that this is false. I mean, this is just a distraction from doing the work that really needs to be done. So, I gave her my number and said I'd like to help.

Unfortunately, I have to coach 3 more weeks of Flag Football. This is annoying (but that's another story). I'll try to help a little bit here and there in the meantime.

Flood ravaged town, thought ravaged minds

So some of you may have heard of our recent floods in Burlington County, NJ. I have friend who lost almost everything he owns.

Well, the church I attend (Fellowship Alliance Chapel, Medford, NJ) has been helping out with people and material, and coordination. It's been amazing. But, my town (Lumberton) got hit as bad, if not worse, than Medford. Our church hasn't sent any crews to my town. I've been wondering why. On a work crew assignment today someone told me that the genius mayor (or someone?) in Lumberton turned down the offer of help from the church.

Yes, that's right! THEY TURNED IT DOWN!!!

Why? Well, get this! They were told its because they're concerned about "Separation of Church and State."

I don't know who said this, or even if its accurate. But I promise you this: I will get to the bottom of this and if its true, I will have a new mission in my life. My mission will be to completely lay waste to the political career of whoever has done this! Mayor? No. Councilman? No. Dog catcher? No. The guy at the fire department who polishes the chrome on the pumper truck? No. (You can MAYBE hold his towels for him though ... MAYBE.)

Yes, I'm an Eagles fan. And yes, I'm also a Dittohead (that means I'm a Rush Limbaugh fan for those of you from Rio Linda).

How, you may ask, do I reconcile these two seemingly contradictory things?

Well, its not that hard really. Lets look at the McNabb-Limbaugh controversy. Rush said:
1- the media are a bunch of dopes, and
2- that McNabb is overrated.

Number 1? No problem. Anyone care to argue? ... thought not.

Number 2? I can understand someone coming to that conclusion. Because, quite frankly, he has not lived up to the hype. But why? There are two reasonable conclusions. Either he was over-hyped, or he is under-achieving. Rush believes the former, while I believe the latter.

Anyway, its all for nought at the moment. Training camp starts next week. Terrell Owens is in town. Jevon Kearse is here. (There are rumors that Eddie George wants to come to Philly... don't know.) Perhaps we will see who is right this season. Because with all of these acquisitions, there are no more excuses for McNabb. Either he performs or I'm going to start agreeing with Rush.

I've been in classified meetings, and have taken notes, and have had those checked before I left. Believe me, folks, you don't do what he says he did just by accident. It HAD to be intentional. That's why there's a procedure. You follow the procedure to minimize and/or eliminate any potential for accidents like that.

And this was not just a single document or two. This is (from press reports) over 50 pages of notes that left without approval.

Its amazing how many people have to fall on the sword for the Clinton's. Web Hubble, Susan McDougle, and now Sandy Burglar.
